The Ghost of Lord Jaguar Paw

Description

Originally a canvas simply streaked with peach and light jade tones of acrylic paint to which I had applied a drawing, done in copper paint pen, from a stele featuring the Mayan king Jaguar Paw, ruler of Tikal - the largest of the Mayan cities. It was just a quickie done to fill space at a show and I definitely wasn't satisfied with it. Having not sold, naturally, I took it back to the studio and crisscrossed it with masking tape and went at it with spray paint and some splatters of thinned black paint. The tape was removed and then more used to make the "floating" bars and blocks. Added to this were glyphs drawn with paint pens and colored pencils as well as a few printed with some silk-screens I had made for other projects. Figuring it still wasn't busy enough, I drew a big Kukulcan (Quetzalcoatl) of my own design and some "floating" rods. Colored pencils were used to add all the dimension and shadows. Being that the original work was called Lord Jaguar Paw it seemed fitting that this reincarnation, with vestiges of the original influencing the new image, should be called The Ghost of Lord Jaguar Paw.

Great Painting! Don't know why I like it, but I do. Your efforts were well worth the ressurection. At first glace, I thought it was some sort of metal work art. Looks like a bunch of layering, which I like. The tape idea really pulls it together.
